    Cadettes revive library at Puerto Rican school San Francisco, a K school in Ponce, Puerto Rico. The girls, both Cadettes in Girl Scout Troop , raised funds to restock the library’s.   When I Was Puerto Rican is a memoir of Esmeralda Santiago's life from the time she was about four years old, in Puerto Rico, to when she was about fourteen, after she had been in New York for about an year and a half, give or take. While not the best book I've ever read, WIWPR is a great coming of age story.4/5().

Providing books to school libraries in need has helped students in Puerto Rico get back to normal. I’ve also seen how these grants have positively impacted librarians. When librarians receive books from organizations, they rarely have the opportunity to be involved in the selection process.

Access Books is working in Puerto Rico on April 8th & 9th. As you know, the need for quality books and libraries is not isolated to California. We are partnering with the San Felipe Humanitarian Alliance, a California based family foundation, and a local organization in Puerto Rico, Puerto Rico Rise Up, to refurbish two school libraries.

The Puerto Rico Center for the Book will embody “the most wondrous places in the world — libraries — and the possibility of discovery” they offer, she said. “Part of the wonder is to be recognized by the Library of Congress.
